Under local anaesthesia, ingrown toenail surgery involves removing a toenail entirely or in part. Typically, nail surgery is recommended when a patient experiences discomfort from an ingrown toenail. Nail surgery is taken into consideration if the nail cannot be conservatively managed with routine podiatry visits. In certain cases, if a fungal infection damages the nail, nail surgery may be recommended.
Ingrown, thick, or deformed nails can hurt and occasionally get infected. After receiving treatment, the symptoms may temporarily go away, but they usually return when the nail grows back.
Painful ingrowing toenails are usually permanent
and safely treated with toennail surgery.
It is recommended that you take the following day off from work and rest your foot for the remainder of the day following toenail surgery. You will need to stay away from sports for at least a week after this. Discuss this with your podiatrist. Depending on the severity of your toenail issue, a full recovery could take four to eight weeks. After the surgery, the majority of ingrowing toenails are painless, while there is a possibility that the nail will hurt for a few days. After the procedure, you will be reviewed by us at regular intervals.
